Diary Entry #6
I know that I just added to my Diary Entry, but that was
supposed to be for last week. This week some exciting news involving Spidey in
the MCU, X-Men: Apocalypse, and even a DC Comics adaption. I did notice that
this week was VERY heavy on the nerd aspect, but hey I work with what I am
giving folks. Hopefully next week will not be as geeky. Let’s jump right in!
Spider-Man/Marvel
Cinematic Universe News: So over the past serval weeks there has been
much speculation on which character will be
Spider-Man (
Peter Parker
or someone else) in
Sony Pictures/Marvel
Pictures reboot of the web-slinger. This week, Kevin Feige has confirmed
that Parker will in fact be the character under the mask. The Marvel Studios
President has also said that the new
Spider-Man
film
WILL NOT be an origin story.
Feige went on to say that the writers are going to go with the assumption that
audiences know Spidey’s origin and will skip right over it. All I have to say
is…WHEW! I am so happy that Marvel is going in this direction. Parker is Spidey
and that is that. Parker is going to be in his high school years, so it will be
interesting to see who Marvel/Sony chooses to play Parker. Casting news for
Parker/Spidey should come quite soon since he has been confirmed for
Captain America: Civil War and filming for
that should start within a month.
X-Men: Apocalypse
Update: This week
Bryan Singer
has confirmed every nerd’s speculation (see
here
for my speculation) on who
Ben Hardy
(
EastEnders) will be playing in the
upcoming X-Film. Hardy will indeed be playing
Angel, however Singer says that this Angel will not be very nice. I
am going to go out on a limb here and say that Hardy will more likely be
playing
Archangel (one of
Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen). In the
X-Books Angel is tricked into giving up his wings by Apocalypse and they are
replaced by large metallic wings. Angel is also under mind control from
Apocalypse, so becomes a villain to the X-Men for a short period of time. As
you can see from the concept art, the metallic wings are in place. This looks
awesome and Singer is making it harder and harder to be patient for this film
to come out.
Tron 3 Update:
Yes, I have another update for you. A couple weeks ago I mention that
Tron 3 will begin filming this year in
Vancouver (read it
here).
I also mentioned that I would like to see
Olivia
Wilde reprise her role as
Quorra.
Well, that dream has come true. News of Wilde’s casting came this week. Wilde
did a great job in
Legacy and since
she is confirmed to return, I hope that the writers expand her role a little
more. Look out for more information on the upcoming
Disney sequel.
Director News:
Fresh off his first big screen action success with
Furious 7,
James Wan is
being targeted for
Warner Bros/
DC Comics adaptation of
Aquaman starring
Jason Momoa. Wan is known more for his horror films, but he took a
HUGE step forward with his career by doing the latest
Fast & Furious film. Wan shown that he is able to handle the
pressure of a large scale production and the heavy expectations of success. Wan
will give an unique feel to
Aquaman
that the comic hero will definitely need. I love the choice and makes me feel a
little better about this character coming to movie theatres. DC is making grand
strides when it comes to its live-action TV/Movies, but Aquaman will prove the
biggest test for DC. Not only is Aquaman slightly boring, but I fear that
casual movie-goers are not going to get excited about a superhero underwater.
Stay tuned for next week’s
all-new Diary Entry
