Diary Entry #7
Hello again to all of you. Are you ready for another Diary
Entry? Last week’s was heavy on the geek with news of a few X-characters being
confirmed for Apocalypse, Olivia Wilde reprising her role as Quorra in Tron 3, and Furious 7
director James Wan in talks for big
screen adaptation of Aquaman. This
week is a little less geeky, but a couple comic movies gain cast members, lose
directors, and gain directors. Also a Streaming favorite is picked up for
another season. And now…Journal Entry #7
Director News:
Early this week Warner Bros made it known that director Michelle MacLaren (The
Walking Dead) has exited the Wonder
Woman film project due to classic reason, ‘creative differences’. Rumors
swirled about MacLaren’s departure with most of them stating that MacLaren wanted
Wonder Woman to be on scale with Braveheart, but the studio just wanted a
simple character-driven story. I, personally, would have liked to see MacLaren’s
vision more than a simple character story. Along with this ‘divorce’, Warner
Bros spent no time getting into bed with another woman. Warner Bros hired Patty Jenkins (Monster), who ironically was attached to another comic book film Thor: The Dark World before Jenkins left
that project for the same reasons MacLaren has. Maybe Warner Bros should have
been on the phone with Kathryn Bigelow
(Zero Dark Thirty); she knows how to
handle big budget action films. Jenkins did a great job with Monster, but can her talent for
characters translate into an action flick as well? For DC’s sake, I hope so.
Casting News:
Well it seems that another mutant has been confirmed for Bryan Singer’s X-Men:
Apocalypse. The director has confirmed that Olivia Munn (Deliver Us From
Evil) will appear as Psylocke.
Psylocke is a British telepath that is also a trained martial artist. Munn
looks the part and isn’t a terrible actress, I am just worried the roster of
mutants is now getting out of hand. This was my biggest problem (besides the
crap story) with X-Men: Last Stand,
there were just too many random characters thrown into the film. Due to all of
those characters, the story got bogged down by introductions and never really
focused on the plot. Though as I have said before, I trust Singer and his view
of the X-verse.
More Casting News:
It has been confirmed this week that Dominic
Cooper (Need for Speed) has been
cast in AMC’s adaptation of the
comic book series Preacher. Produced
by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg, the series will follow Jesse Custer (Cooper) and his journey
to find God. Cooper is a great choice for this role because of his great talent
to project a little bit of mystery behind his eyes. Though I have not actually
read any of the books, I believe that Preacher
will find a bit of success due to the cable channel that is distributing the
series. AMC has found huge success with another under-the-radar comic book
series (The Walking Dead), so another
comic book series like that may be another grand success.
TV News:
Before fans of the women of Litchfield
Prison get to see the ladies for a third look into their lives, Orange is the New Black has already been
picked up for a fourth season. I am sure that this is due largely to the
critical and audience acclaim of the show. OITNB
has been nominated for numerous awards and is rightly deserving of their
continuation on Netflix. Just
wondering how far this show can actually go since main character Piper Chapman is only supposed to be
sentenced to 15 months.
Star Wars News:
This week in Anaheim, CA, Star Wars
fans gathered to celebrate everything dealing with the mega-franchise. Star Wars Celebration was particularly
exciting this year because of The Force
Awakens coming to theatres this year and because of the expanded cinematic
universe being talked about around Hollywood. Fans of the films were not let
down at all this year, mainly because director J.J Abrams released a new teaser trailer (click here)
that features a little more footage than the last teaser. We get to see the Millennium
Falcon in action and a glimpse at a much older Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and a not-aged-a-day Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew). I loved this teaser more than the last,
simply for the fact that we see more of what made Star Wars amazing. Hopefully Abrams will release another trailer
soon because all of this waiting is KILLING me.
Thanks for reading everyone;
I will have some more updates for you soon. Check back next week for an all new
Diary Entry!
