Magicians and Robbing Banks Go Together Right?!
#4:
Now You See Me
During the summer, all of us have come to expect the big
budget, high octane blockbusters. However, during this time some films are
released to remind us the other reasons on why we go to the movies: to relax
and be entertained. Now You See Me is
one of those films.
Now You See Me stars
Jessie Eisenburg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, and Dave Franco (yes, James’
brother) as The Four Horseman. Magicians with various, but specific talents
that have been brought together for one purpose: robbing banks. This is where
the FBI (Mark Ruffalo) and Interpol (Mélanie Laurent) come in. These two agents
are paired together to figure out how four magicians are robbing banks without
actually being in the bank. Now, I can go on and tell you a lot more of the
plot of the movie, but I can’t without dropping clues or even spoilers to the
movie, so I am going to leave that taste on your tongue.
Each actor in this film does an above par job, as this film
doesn’t really require in depth acting. I have really enjoyed following Eisenburg
on his acting journey since The Social
Network and in this film you can tell that the studio really wanted to make
him the centerpiece of the film. Eisenburgs’ character is the unspoken leader
of The Four Horsemen and he portrays that typical Alpha Male aurora when on
screen. But again, each actor that was cast plays their part in the story very
well.
The film is directed by Louis Leterrier, who I think really
had the easiest job on this film. Leterrier is better known for his big budget
action films such as the Clash of the
Titans remake and The Incredible Hulk.
I personally loved his second film, Unleashed,
in my opinion one of the best Jet Li films ever. Why do I think he had the
easiest job? Excluding a few action sequences, it felt the Leterrier gave the
actors the script and let them do their thing. Not at all saying that is a bad
thing, but with this cast, I think I would have done the same thing. Trusting
your cast enough to know how to translate what was written and represent it the
best way they know how.
In the style of Ocean’s
Eleven, Now You See Me is a fun,
relaxing bank caper film, that even with the many plot twists is still a very
entertaining film.
Verdict: Worth Your
Time
